Exhaustion

No writing yet today. I need to devote some time to it. My feet are just hurting from standing all day in new shoes while working with the kids yesterday during my sub job. I subbed first-grade in the morning and fourth grade in the afternoon. The first-grade teacher had a fun game to play with the kids to help them learn their sight words. She'd dressed up a plastic plate with a cloth cover to make it look like a pie. Then she'd slipped paper with the words on it beneath the cover and into the plate, along with the word "crash." Each child took a turn, with eyes closed, picking a word from the pie plate that the child them had to name correctly and retain. When anyone picked the "crash" card, he had to return all of his words to the plate and start over. They enjoyed the game, and so did I. And the best thing about subbing? I got some hugs on my way out.

The more challenging class was, of course, fourth grade. They were noisy. I don't know how I can sub music and tolerate 1/2 hour of everyone playing recorders all at once, but I just about went crazy with all of the noise in the fourth-grade classroom. I'd clap my hands, ask them to be quiet, and then the noise level would soon rise again.

I know I could never be a bus driver. I once sat in on a kindergarten bus ride and, as each group of children boarded the bus, the noise just got louder and louder with their chattering. Nope, no bus driver jobs for me!

A few of the fourth-grade kids could tell I felt worn out and they came over to apologize for the behavior of their class - which I thought was sweet. One girl said she wished I could be their sub every time, because I'm nice and this was the best day she'd had in class (and she'd been behaving well). I thought that was sweet.

Anyway, I came home with sore feet and relief that the day was over. I'm hoping that music on Thursday goes better. I was so tired that I took a nap after I got home and didn't get any writing done, and today I've just been idling around without any writing either. I guess I'll have to fit in some writing tonight.
